How the range is worked out
- Each question has a difficulty level from our Henrietta Barnett question bank. A middle-level question is one an average girl sitting Round One gets right about two times in three.
- In each section we find the ability that best explains how many your daughter got right, allowing for how hard those questions were.
- We report on the usual 11+ standardised scale, where the children who sit a test average 100 in each section, with most between 85 and 115. We place your daughter's ability on that scale and show where it sits among the girls who sit it.
- The school does not publish how it combines the sections, so each one stands alone. With four or five questions a section the range is wide; a full timed mock narrows it.
Questions
Is this an official Henrietta Barnett paper?
No. The questions are our own, written for Round One's English, verbal and non-verbal reasoning, and each one was solved independently by two solvers.
How accurate is the score?
It is a range, because 14 questions cannot pin down one score. About two times in three your daughter's level sits inside it. A full timed Round One mock narrows it a lot.
How long does it take?
15 minutes: English 6, verbal reasoning 5 and non-verbal reasoning 4. The school does not publish Round One question counts or timings.
Do we need an account?
No. The marks and the likely scores show straight away. A free account adds the topics to fix first, a two-week plan and every answer explained, and keeps them.
What comes after Round One?
Round Two: a 60-minute English paper and a 50-minute maths paper. Both rounds count towards the final decision; the school does not publish the weights.
